VA Named on 'Most Wired' Hospitals List
WASHINGTON—VA, representing its 152 facilities, was recently recognized on the 2013 “Most Wired” hospitals list.
The annual survey was released by Hospitals & Health Networks, in partnership with McKesson, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and the American Hospital Association.
The survey, “is designed to measure the level of IT adoption in U.S. hospitals and health systems, and is a useful tool for hospital and health system leadership to map their IT strategic plans,” according to the American Hospital Association.
For VA, the designation is the first time all its medical centers nationwide were recognized on the list.
“VA is honored to have its integrated health care system on the ‘Most Wired’ hospitals list for the first time ever,” said Dr. Robert Petzel, VA Undersecretary for Health in a written statement.
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki said in a written statement that “as the nation’s largest health network, VA is continuously working to improve and enhance our understanding of which technologies best meet the needs of our veteran patients.”
According to VA, the survey was conducted between Jan. 15, 2013 and March 15, 2013 and polled 1,713 hospitals and health systems nationwide. In order to make the “Most Wired” list, organizations had to meet criteria in four different areas: infrastructure, business and administration management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration.
