2-17-2010 CDC Announces New Members on Leadership Team

WASHINGTON—CDC Director Dr. Thomas R. Frieden recently announced seven new members of his leadership team.  Six of the positions being filled are in the Office of the CDC Director while the other is the director of the new Center for Global Health. 

“I’m pleased to announce these members of CDC’s leadership team who will further strengthen both science and action at CDC,” said Dr. Frieden in a statement. “Each member comes with hands-on experience in their respective field.  They form a superb team committed to strengthening CDC’s public health efforts to reduce illness, disability, and death in this country and around the world.” 

The appointments include:

Donna Garland, Associate Director for Communications

Harold Jaffe, MD, Associate Director for Science

Bill Nichols, Chief Operating Officer

 Deputy Directors:

Robin Ikeda, MD, Deputy Director, Office of Noncommunicable Diseases, Injury and Environmental Health

Rima Khabbaz, MD, Deputy Director, Office of Infectious Diseases

Stephen Thacker, MD, Deputy Director, Office of Surveillance, Epidemiology and Laboratory Services

 Center Director:

                  Kevin De Cock, MD, Director, Center for Global Health
